Pedestrianization of Mont-Royal Avenue
Design and impact management
Intervia designed and managed the impacts of several pedestrianization projects located along Mont-Royal Avenue between Saint-Laurent Boulevard and Fullum Street. Close coordination between our engineers and communications experts was essential to ensure smooth traffic flow around the area, while maintaining access for emergency and service vehicles without compromising user safety and mobility. Our engineering team prepared the traffic maintenance specifications, and our communications experts handled on-site relations with residents and business partners.
To make the pedestrian zone accessible to non-motorized wheeled vehicles while maintaining pedestrian safety, Intervia participated in the pilot project “Zone lenteur” (Slow Zone) conducted by the Institut national de la recherche scientifique (INRS) in collaboration with École polythechnique.
To make the project more inclusive and improve circulation within the zone, Intervia innovated by proposing aesthetic, user-friendly layouts that blended seamlessly into the urban landscape with clear, consistent signage. The firm also made it possible to introduce small-scale shuttle services to improve accessibility for persons with reduced mobility along the entire section.
