Development of the Esplanade Tranquille in the Quartier des Spectacles
Located west of Clark Street, between Sainte-Catherine Street West and de Montigny Street, the development of the Clark Esplanade was the last phase of the redevelopment of the Quartier des spectacles. The City of Montreal's objective was to create a dynamic and intimate complementary public living space. The new facility, named "Esplanade Tranquille" in honour of a mecca of Quebec culture from the 50s, was envisioned as an urban terrace in the summer and a place for winter activities thanks to its refrigerated skating rink.
Few urban areas experience traffic as dense and diverse as that encountered in this district. To meet the traffic challenges, the City of Montreal mandated Intervia to manage the impacts, maintain traffic, and provide support with site communication activities and relations with partners and the public.
