Development of the Esplanade Tranquille in the Quartier des Spectacles
Impact management and traffic maintenance in a dense urban setting
Intervia’s traffic engineers and liaison officers took part in the project’s design phase, notably by overseeing and validating the traffic specifications prepared by the lead consultant and by harmonizing the signage plans.
Careful coordination of constraints across multiple construction sites, while integrating events held in the Quartier des Spectacles, required our team’s involvement in meetings of the Partners’ Committee – Place des Arts hub. Significant effort went into developing and continually adjusting mitigation measures to minimize the project’s impacts on a district with a wide diversity of cultural, residential, commercial, and institutional activities. For example, access to Place des Arts’ indoor parking was maintained on show nights, and access to private parking lots located between Clark Street and Saint-Laurent Boulevard was also preserved throughout the work.
Staying in touch with people: the role of construction communications
Working with the traffic maintenance and impact management team, liaison officers helped communicate the mitigation measures implemented, such as safely setting up a temporary drop-off zone on an adjacent street to maintain access to a daycare, or establishing a truck holding area that required custom signage. This setup helped channel the high volume of trucks that had been hindering access to local businesses.
