Mobility planning: Innovating to meet local needs

To successfully complete this mandate, our mobility planning professionals developed a classification tool to assess schools according to their specific safety needs. A comprehensive field study was carried out around 40 schools in the borough to record existing infrastructure and signage and evaluate the safety of vulnerable users based on detailed criteria. Using these findings, our team designed a classification system that prioritized intervention needs for each site, assessing safety conditions between vulnerable users and vehicles along targeted road segments and intersections.

Beyond identifying one site for PSAÉ submission, this classification tool, by pinpointing and ranking safety issues near all schools, has become a valuable resource for the borough. It now supports annual infrastructure planning by integrating or accelerating corrective interventions to address safety concerns.

Innovation is a driving force at Intervia, enabling us to respond effectively to mobility challenges and ensure safe movement for all users.

A step-by-step approach: From field studies to funding application

Following the classification phase, two sites were shortlisted. Intervia studied redevelopment solutions addressing the issues identified on-site and presented its recommendations to the borough through conceptual design plans tailored to the study’s findings.

This process allowed Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie to select the priority site for redevelopment within its PSAÉ funding application. Intervia prepared this application in close collaboration with the borough, ensuring a detailed and coherent submission aligned with the prior analyses and recommendations.
