Mobility planning: Innovating to meet needs

To carry out this mandate, our team of mobility planning professionals created a tool for classifying schools based on their respective security needs. As a result, a vast field study was conducted around 40 schools located in the Borough. Using a list of specific criteria, the surveys identified pre-existing infrastructure and signage in the sectors studied in order to assess the safety of vulnerable users. Then, our teams developed a classification to establish intervention priorities for the different sites by identifying safety issues involving vulnerable users and vehicles on the sections and intersections under study.

In addition to identifying a site to be submitted for the PSAÉ, this classification tool, which has made it possible to identify and prioritize the safety issues of road traffic in the vicinity of all schools, is now becoming an additional tool for the borough in its annual planning of infrastructure maintenance projects by integrating or anticipating corrective interventions to mitigate or remedy safety issues.

Innovation is therefore a driving force at Intervia since it enables us to respond optimally to mobility needs and challenges to ensure user safety.

Step-by-step support: From field studies to funding application

Following the classification described above, two sites were selected. Intervia studied various redevelopment options in response to the issues observed on the ground and submitted its recommendations to the Borough of Rosemont-La Petite-Patrie. These recommendations were conceptualized through conceptual infrastructure plans that can address the issues raised during the study.

This step allowed the borough to select the site it wanted to revamp as a priority as part of its application for funding from the PSAÉ. The latter was put together by our team, in collaboration with the borough, to deliver a detailed application that is consistent with the studies and recommendations made previously.
