Reconfiguration of the Bonaventure Expressway
Major traffic-management challenges
The traffic-maintenance mandate entrusted to Intervia came with numerous challenges. We had to ensure uninterrupted public-transit service and preserve travel times for the approximately 1,000 buses that use the Bonaventure corridor each day.
Another key challenge was staging the worksite and planning multiple configurations, in line with construction sequencing, to maintain access to and from downtown throughout the project.
Finally, we needed to sustain safe, fluid movement for all modes by optimizing lane configurations and creating protected corridors for every type of users.
Exemplary coordination and impact management for a successful project
Alongside continuous coordination with all project stakeholders—and strong adaptability in producing deliverables—Intervia designed a tailored setup of reversible lanes with dynamic signage to accommodate peak AM/PM traffic. Nearly 27,000 vehicles traveled the Bonaventure corridor each day.
Our team also worked closely with the managers of two neighbouring major projects: the Turcot Interchange rehabilitation and the construction of the new Samuel-De Champlain Bridge.
