Special Planning Program for the Future REM Station in Kirkland
The arrival of the Réseau express métropolitain (REM) is profoundly transforming the dynamics of the areas it serves. The construction of a new REM station in a neighbourhood cannot be done without adequate redevelopment of the surrounding urban space. This raises important mobility and safety challenges to ensure smooth traffic flow around the future station site, across all modes of transport, while maintaining accessibility to the surrounding zones. To address these issues, the Town of Kirkland retained the services of several specialized firms in urban planning, urban design, landscape architecture, and traffic engineering to develop a Special urban planning program (PPU) for the sector hosting the future REM station. As part of this process, the urban planning firm Provencher-Roy enlisted Intervia to carry out the necessary traffic studies to support the project’s successful implementation. Our team also supported the Town throughout the planned development process of the site.
