Special Planning Program for the Future REM Station in Kirkland

Traffic study: a prerequisite for successful project execution

A traffic study is an essential step in any urban redevelopment project. It must account for all types of movement within the study area to anticipate potential mobility and safety challenges and adapt each project phase accordingly.

To ensure the safety, comfort, and efficiency of all modes of transportation in the sector, Intervia’s mobility planning team conducted a comprehensive study and provided recommendations based on a structured methodology, which included:

  • a detailed profile and characterization of the study area;

  • the development of a Vistro model identifying key traffic issues;

  • generation and assignment of projected traffic volumes;

  • analysis of anticipated on-street and off-street parking supply;

  • evaluation of mitigation measures.

Support from the Town for the planned development of the site

When addressing mobility planning, it is essential to adopt a holistic view of the project so that every stakeholder understands the constraints and specificities of each phase. The support of the Town throughout the site’s development process allowed Intervia to integrate the technical, architectural, economic, and social considerations of all stakeholders through a collaborative approach rooted in reflection, analysis, consultation, and planning.
