Rehabilitation of Sewer and Water Conduits in Montreal
The City of Montreal has 10,000 kilometres of conduits, both for water and sewers. Some of these pipes had been in service for more than 100 years. As a result, the City established an infrastructure rehabilitation and upgrading program to repair or replace the poor infrastructure under some 700 kilometres of streets.
This work, located in a highly urbanized environment, was carried out at the same time by four different contractors. Minimizing the impact on traffic was therefore necessary. The work required continuous adaptation to other nearby construction sites, as well as special events, so seamless coordination and communication were essential.
The City of Montreal therefore mandated Intervia to meet the challenge of maintaining traffic.
