New Île-aux-Tourtes Bridge
Large-scale work
Deployed on the project since May 2023, our team has developed a general mobility management plan (GMMP) to have a global vision of traffic maintenance throughout the project's implementation period, from design to construction. This long-term vision of mobility makes it possible to anticipate challenges in the different phases of work and provide appropriate solutions and mitigation measures. At the same time, our traffic study and planning team established a baseline that paints a picture of the state of mobility on the network at any given time in the approach to the worksite. This portrait covers an area larger than the approach to the construction site but may be affected by the latter. This reference situation serves as a guide throughout the project to identify traffic anomalies and remedy them quickly.
Unique features and challenges
A bridge project of this magnitude requires mobility management both on land, through traffic maintenance on Highway 40, and on the water to facilitate the navigation of boats in the vicinity of the work and under the original bridge. The main challenge remains the unforeseen situations inherent to each construction site. Our team has had to deal with reductions in the number of lanes open on the original bridge, which resulted in a complete overhaul of the GMMP. The team's agility and responsiveness ensured the continuity of design and construction activities despite the change in the configuration of the original bridge's lanes without compromising the progress of the work in 2024. The multitude of workers and stakeholders directly or indirectly linked to the project also requires a great deal of coordination to guarantee optimal and safe mobility, over the long term, for the benefit of users, contractors, and workers.
